Creating the Magic

From Concept to Reality: The KCL Process

At Kaleidoscope Cauldron Labs, we're passionate about creating unique and functional items that bring joy to our customers. Our process begins with a spark of creativity and ends with a beautifully crafted product that meets our high standards.

Ideas

Every great product starts with an idea. Our team brainstorms and sketches out concepts, considering everything from form to function to aesthetics.

Modeling Once we have a solid concept, we create a 3D model using Fusion 360 software. Some of our models are designed in-house by our talented team, while others come from external designers with whom we partner.

Materials At Kaleidoscope Cauldron Labs, we're dedicated to crafting items that are not only visually stunning but also remarkably resilient. To achieve this, we've carefully selected a trio of high-quality plastics: ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate), and TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane). You may already be familiar with ABS - it's the same robust material used in LEGOs and many other toys and household items. Its exceptional impact resistance and strength make it perfect for creating functional, long-lasting pieces. ASA is a close cousin of ABS, offering similar benefits while also boasting UV resistance and reduced environmental impact during printing. TPU, on the other hand, brings unparalleled flexibility to our creations, allowing us to push the boundaries of design and innovation. By combining these exceptional plastics, we're able to bring you items that are not only beautiful but also built to withstand the test of time.

Printing We use our custom-built Voron printers to bring our models to life in a wide range of colors. One of the benefits of printing with colored plastics is that we don't need to use any paints to achieve vibrant colors. This means that even if an item gets scratched or worn down, the color won't chip off - it's a permanent part of the material itself.

Post-processing Perfection After printing, each piece is carefully inspected to ensure it meets our high-quality standards. Depending on the item, we use various techniques to smooth out any rough parts, such as acetone markers, dremmel tools, sanders, or hand filing.

Glossy Finish (for ABS and ASA models) The final step for many of our products is a signature acetone flash. This process welds all touching parts together, resulting in a smooth, shiny finish that's both beautiful and durable.
